Scenario I: Anthrax in Ardkeld

The Ardkeld Pandemic Response committee has gathered the following information for the second meeting of your group.

You should evaluate the effect(s) of the actions that you took at your last meeting and evaluate the current state of affairs in Ardkeld.

You should submit 3-5 specific actions for further actions to control the pandemic, using the workshop 4 pro forma (also available on MyPlace). You should consider whether you want to continue any of the public health measures you implemented at your previous meeting, or whether you want to stop them; and also whether there are any new, additional actions you would like to take. Submit the pro forma by noon on Friday March 15th, via the submission link on MyPlace.

Minutes from the last Pandemic Response Committee Meeting

Actions taken:

  1. Contact & whereabouts tracing of current cases to find possible sources and commonalities over the past week; e.g. location, occupation, handling of infected animal products

  2. Antibiotic prophylaxis and vaccination of exposed people/families and livestock based on tracing from above point. Antibiotics dependent on type: Inhalation/GI – combination of 2 ciprofloxacin & doxycycline, or amoxicillin & imipenem Cutaneous: ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, or amoxicillin. Vaccine: Anthrasil for both human and animal

  3. Public awareness campaign - specifically target famers/butchers/slaughter houses etc. to educate people on the outbreak/risks.

Ticktock, TV, radio, flyers, community meetings

  1. Stop all export of animal products (meat, skin, fleece/wool) to prevent spread to other areas, until source has been identified.

Letters from the Public

Dear Pandemic Response Committee

I am so outraged by all of the restrictions that you are imposing on our wonderful city and our normally successful businesses. By stopping export of animal products, you are stifling our economy - how do you expect to maintain the health and well-being of our city if no one can afford to eat anymore, I ask you that!

Many successful businesses are still struggling in the wake of COVID and due to the ongoing cost of living crisis, I would think that the government would be stepping in just now to help businesses and not actively working to hurt them. This is such a disgrace, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves and you ought to keep your interfering busybody noses out of everyone’s businesses (literally).

Sincerely,
Kieran

Subject: The Vaccines

Dear Pandemic Response Committee,

I am so frightened about new pandemic, the news you read about it is very scary. Thank you so much for all your hard work you are doing to protect us.

I heard that there was a vaccine that can help protect us, but I am not eligible for this, I was wondering what should I do? Can you please get extra vaccine supplies so that everyone can be eligible? It would be great if we were all protected by the vaccine.

Thank you so much for all the hard work you do,
Siobhan

Ardkeld says farewell to pandemic’s youngest victim
by Norman Stewart 12/03/2023

The Bacillus anthracis pandemic ravaging Ardkeld has claimed yet another victim. There have been 15 deaths in the pandemic so far, but perhaps the most tragic loss is Robert Martin - at only 2, the youngest victim that the pandemic has claimed.

Robert Martin liked penguins and giraffes. Friends and family say that he was always a delight.

Robert is survived by his parents and grandparents, and by his siblings Charlie, Alfie, and Jacob.

The funeral service will be held Monday at St. Andrew’s.

Bonnie was perhaps best known for her 2008 work Golden Days , but fans say that the rest of her work was equally as memorable.

Bonnie is survived by her partner, and by her siblings Luke and Chester.

The funeral service will be held Friday at St. Mary’s.

Ardkeld pandemic council making great strides
by Alan Moore 05/03/2023

Citizens of Ardkeld should be thankful that the city’s Pandemic Response Council, swiftly convened when a new pandemic began to hit Ardkeld, has been so effective. While the initial death toll from the pandemic appeared to be quite alarming, the actions taken by the PRC seem to have been most effective.

Officials from Public Health Scotland have publicly praised the Ardkeld PRC, saying that their actions have been extremely effective

There have been 6 deaths due to Bacillus anthracis in Ardkeld this week. This is an enormous decrease, and hopefully Ardkeld will see the death toll continue to decrease in the coming weeks.

Yet more overreach in the name of “science”
by Alan Swift 12/03/2023

Governments across the globe have seen how successful power-grabs in the name of public health can be, following on the wave of restrictions imposed because of so-called viral diseases like COVID-19 and “mpox”. So-called scientists are fearmongering - aerosols, monkeys, “bird” flu - now they think that they can fool us into thinking that the air and water are unsafe. Citizens of Ardkeld should stand strong against this terrible tyranny! No more mask mandates, no more senseless restrictions!

Our elders should not be left to die alone, left frightened and hopeless in a mandatory lockdown claimed to be “for their benefit.” Our children should not be left to struggle through “pandemic” after “pandemic” - their language and literacy skills have been left behind due to these lockdowns, and their mental health is suffering. It is time that we take back control of our lives and end this tyranny of fear-mongering and so-called science. Citizens of Ardkeld, stand with me and resist this most recent attack on your freedoms and your lives.

Bacillus anthracis pandemic in Ardkeld
by Ben Schiller 03/03/2023

Hard on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic and a number of other health scares (monkeypox, or “mpox”, avian flu, and worries about other infectious disease outbreaks), another pandemic has hit the Scottish town of Ardkeld. This time, it’s Bacillus anthracis, a bacterium that you may remember from the bioterrorism scare several years ago.

There have been 15 deaths in the pandemic so far, but perhaps the most frightening aspect to this new pandemic is rumours that these Bacillus anthracis strains may have become resistant to even more antibiotics - a truly chilling possibility.

Scientists have been warning about the antibiotic resistance crisis for years, saying that careless use of antibiotics could mean that these precious medicines will no longer be available to us in the future.

Some of the Bacillus anthracis strains found in Ardkeld are reportedly resistant to all clinically available antibiotics, and scientists warn that these drug-resistant pathogens might be able to spread to new locations. Will nearby towns be next, or could these Bacillus anthracis strains go as global as the SARS-COV2 virus did?
